How to Hear Live Photos on Your iPhone

Live Photos capture the moments before and after you take a picture, including sound. They’re a fun way to relive memories more vividly. But sometimes, figuring out how to actually hear the audio can be tricky. This guide will show you how to listen to the sound on your Live Photos.

Enabling Sound and Playing Live Photos

Live Photos record 1.5 seconds of audio and video both before and after you press the shutter button. To ensure sound is captured with your Live Photos, your iPhone’s ringer must be on. Avoid using Silent mode when taking Live Photos if you want to record audio.

To hear a Live Photo’s audio:

  1. Open the Photos app and find the Live Photo you want to hear.
  2. Press and hold the photo. Don’t just tap it; you need to maintain a firm press on the screen.
  3. The Live Photo will play, including the recorded audio. Make sure your phone’s volume is turned up!

If you’re still having trouble hearing the audio, check these things:

  • Ringer Switch: Ensure your iPhone’s ringer switch is flipped on (not showing orange). Live Photos won’t record audio in Silent mode.
  • Volume Level: Adjust your iPhone’s volume using the volume buttons.
  • Bluetooth Devices: If you’re connected to Bluetooth headphones or speakers, the audio might be playing through those devices instead of your iPhone’s speaker. Disconnect from Bluetooth or switch the audio output back to your iPhone.

Live Photo Settings and Troubleshooting

While Live Photos generally have sound enabled by default, it’s a good idea to double-check your settings. Although there isn’t a specific setting to toggle Live Photo audio on or off, ensuring Live Photos are enabled is crucial. You can find this setting within the Camera app itself. Look for the Live Photo icon (three concentric circles) at the top of your screen. Make sure it’s yellow, indicating that Live Photo mode is active.

If you took a Live Photo and can’t hear any sound, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart Your iPhone: A simple restart can often resolve minor software glitches that might be affecting audio playback.
  • Update Your iOS: Make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Software updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements. You can check for updates in Settings > General > Software Update.

Live Photos are a fantastic way to capture memories with sound. By following these simple steps, you can easily hear the audio recorded with your Live Photos and relive those special moments.
